March Employee Spotlight: Kristin Peck

My name is Kristin Peck and I’m a technical writer at Kepro located in Red Lion, Pennsylvania, where I work remotely.

A fun fact about me is that I wake up around 4 a.m. every morning to teach English as a second language to children in China before starting my regular workday.

I like to start my day with coffee and then tackle whatever comes across my desk first. The variety includes letters to beneficiaries and providers – to RFPs, newsletter articles, resumes, and PowerPoint presentations. The central part of my role as a Technical Writer is to edit, clarify and create documents with the intended audience in mind.

I’ve worked on many various contracts duringmy time with Kepro starting with Maryland Medicaid in 2008. Since then, I have been given numerous opportunities to grow as an employee through cross-training and additional education. I love that I am able to confidently use the knowledge that I have obtained and continue to apply it to my everyday work. Reading and writing are my favorite things to do, even in my spare time. I am blessed to have a job where I can do both on a regular basis. I’m encouraged to flex my creative muscles to write for various aspects of Kepro, even the newsletter! Plus, it helps that my coworkers rock.

More times than not, I am consulted to write information in a beneficiary-friendly way. As professionals, it is easy to get caught up in the habit of “I understand what I am saying” versus what an individual without a medical background would
get from a letter written entirely in clinical jargon.

Medical terminology can be confusing, and without some softer language, the “tone” of a letter can come across as cold. By using empathetic language, we provide beneficiaries a voice of sympathy and understanding.
