November Employee Spotlight: Ashley Twedt

My name is Ashley Twedt, and I am the Lead Clinical Pharmacist supporting the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) Funds - The Funds contract. I'm affiliated with our Nashville, TN office but am physically located in Minnesota.

I attended the University of Iowa for my PharmD and completed a residency at the VA Medical Center in Phoenix. I'm also a board-certified geriatric pharmacist (BCGP).

In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, hiking and biking with my family, and escaping the MN winter for warm weather when I can. We enjoy hiking sections of the Superior Hiking Trail along the north shore of Lake Superior and usually take trips throughout the year to Florida and Arizona to visit family.

I have been a part of the Kepro family for over six years, and each day varies from the next. On a typical day, I  coordinate a group of consultant pharmacists that support our care management team, responding to their needs as well as addressing medication questions and consults from care managers. I also participate in care conferences with our multidisciplinary team each week. I also get to contribute to various projects to support and improve our care management programs through the use of medication data and practice guidelines.

I love working with the dedicated and caring team that serves The Funds. My favorite part of my job is getting to analyze and apply pharmacy data to various circumstances. I also enjoy having the opportunity to help a care manager with an individual beneficiary's medications. Other times, it's looking at aggregate claims information to identify opportunities for new programs or targets for care management outreach. I developed several enhanced programs to allow for direct engagement of pharmacists with providers and beneficiaries/members to assist in optimizing their medication management and reducing adverse incidents related to medication errors, drug interactions, etc. I also created and maintain a panel of consultant pharmacists to support medication regimen reviews as part of Kepro's care management offering to The Funds. Often, I provide support to our commercial accounts relative to the development of care and disease management offerings to clients.

When beneficiaries and their caregivers understand their medications and associated self-monitoring, it contributes to them being able to remain in their homes safely.
